Eidolon Grant 2026 is an international funding program supporting projects that explore vernacular photography and everyday image culture. Organized by the Eidolon Centre for Everyday Photography in Budapest, the third edition will distribute a total of €25,000 among selected projects. Applications are free and close on September 30, 2026.
Artists, photographers, researchers, writers, curators, collectors, and collaborative groups may propose work ranging from research and publications to exhibitions, workshops, multimedia projects, and short documentaries. Prizes and Project Funding
Eidolon Grant 2026 provides a combined €25,000 for selected projects. There is no fixed number of recipients; funding is distributed according to the scope and needs of the proposals chosen by the jury.
Eligible expenses may include professional fees, research, travel, production costs, and payments to project partners. Supported outcomes can include essays, books, exhibitions, translations, workshops, multimedia works, short documentaries, talks, and educational or research programs.

The grant has two funding areas:
- Contemporary Everyday Photographic Cultures: Projects examining digital images, social media, networked photography, and the role everyday photographs play in contemporary communication, identity, and culture.
- Everyday Photographs of the Past: Projects exploring vernacular photography from the 19th and 20th centuries, including archives, private collections, photographic technologies, memory, and overlooked image histories.
The scope can overlap with research-led documentary photography competitions, although Eidolon places greater emphasis on research, interpretation, and project development.

Entry fee:

There is no fee for individuals or groups, placing Eidolon among Deartline’s free photography competitions. Applicants should, however, be prepared to submit a developed project proposal rather than an image-only entry.
How to Enter
Applications are submitted through the official Typeform and must be completed in English. Applicants provide a project abstract, CV, detailed proposal, timeline, methodology, supporting visual material, and a budget using Eidolon’s required template.
Projects involving an external archive, institution, collection, or collaborating organization may also require written consent from that partner. Applications that are incomplete or do not follow the requested format are not considered.
About the Jury
The 2026 jury includes filmmakers Axel Danielson and Maximilien Van Aertryck, curator and researcher Catlin Langford, photography and technology curator Sam Mercer, photographer and visual artist Alba Zari, and Eidolon director and co-founder Róza Tekla Szilágyi.
The panel brings together experience in vernacular photography, contemporary visual culture, filmmaking, curating, research, and digital image practices.
