How to Enter:

About the Jury
The jury for the Sony World Photography Awards 2027 has now been announced. The Series Competition is chaired by Monica Allende, Independent Curator and Photography Consultant, who is also curator of the 2027 London exhibition at Somerset House. She is joined by Santiago Escobar-Jaramillo, photographer and editor at Raya Editorial; Peipei Han, Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska Shanghai; Candice Jansen, Manager of the New Archival Visions Programme at the University of the Western Cape; Amanda Renshaw, independent curator, writer and publishing consultant; and Pauline Vermare, Phillip and Edith Leonian Curator of Photography at the Brooklyn Museum.
The Single Image and Youth competitions are judged by Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen, Managing Director of Copenhagen Photo Festival, while the Student Competition is judged by Menno Liauw, Founder and Director of the FUTURES Foundation. All entries will be judged anonymously, with the selection process taking place in early 2027.

Rules and Copyright

Rules
The competitions have different eligibility requirements. Series entrants must be over 18; Youth is for photographers aged 19 and under; Student is for photographers aged 18 to 30 undertaking a photography program; and Single Image is open to the public, with parental or legal guardian consent required for winners under 16.
All entries must be submitted by the specified deadlines for each competition.
Entrants can enter both the Series and Single Image competitions, but submitted work must originate from different bodies of work.
Images for the Single Image and Youth competitions must be taken in 2026. Series competition images have different criteria for published and unpublished work. Student competition images must respond to the 2027 brief and be taken within the eligible period stated in the rules.
Manipulation is permitted but must be declared; computer-generated content cannot be the origin of the entry. Original files may be requested for verification.
Entrants warrant they are the sole owner and author of each entry and have all necessary rights and permissions.
No animals should be harmed or manipulated in the making of an image.

Copyright and Image Usage
The photographer retains full ownership of the copyright in each entry.
All entrants understand that any image submitted to the competition may be used by the World Photography Organisation (WPO) and its Event Partners for marketing and promotional purposes of the photographer and the event. The Series, Single Image and Youth rules specify a three-year license after the 2027 announcement.
This includes, but is not limited to: judging the competition; displaying winning and shortlisted entries at public exhibitions; inclusion within the WPO website, a World Photography Awards book, magazine or similar; materials promoting the competition or exhibitions; inclusion on competition-related products (following individual agreement by the author); sub-licensing entries to the press for reproduction in connection with the competition; and allowing viewers to view images on various devices for personal, non-commercial use.
WPO may also incorporate images into Sony World Photography Awards Galleries or applications on Event Partner devices for three years, with the acknowledgment that images in such device galleries may remain perpetually royalty-free. The Student rules currently contain conflicting wording on license duration, including both a three-year provision and a perpetual license.
WPO will carry a credit line for any photograph used and will endeavor to rectify any failure to do so.
WPO may need to crop images or add text/logos for online promotional purposes.
