Contest Type

AAP Magazine Street is back for 2026 with a focused call on street photography, and the hook is simple: real life, unposed and unfiltered, caught in the wild. The competition offers $1,000 in total cash awards, publication in the 61st printed issue of AAP Magazine, and a permanent spot in the online Winners Gallery. The final deadline is September 29, 2026, with an Early Bird deadline on September 8. For photographers tracking the year’s calendar, Deartline also curates the best photography challenges in 2026 to plan the next submission.

The brief centers on street: candid energy, everyday scenes, and the tempo of public spaces. Submissions compete for three cash prizes—$500, $300, and $200—while 22 additional Merit Award Winners will also be selected. All 25 selected photographers receive publication in AAP Magazine Volume 61: Street, a free copy of the issue, an online Winners Gallery feature, and a certificate of accomplishment. Entry costs $30 for the first three images during the Early Bird period or $35 for the first three images at the regular rate, with additional images costing $5 each, up to 40 images. For photographers building a body of work around urban narratives, this sits neatly within street photography competitions.

Beyond the awards, placement in AAP Magazine combines print publication with an online portfolio feature and promotional exposure through All About Photo. With judging based on creativity, originality, and visual or emotional impact, the contest remains centered on cohesive photographic work rather than a single prescribed approach to the street.

Categories or Themes

The AAP Magazine Street 2026 edition does not use multiple categories. The entire call revolves around the theme of street photography: unscripted scenes in public places, from fleeting gestures to layered urban stories. Photographers may submit a cohesive body of work or portfolio using digital or analog processes, in color, black and white, or monochrome. That clarity keeps editing decisions focused and helps series-based entries stand out without subcategory constraints.

Why Enter AAP Magazine Street?

Publication in a themed printed issue plus a permanent online feature makes this AAP Magazine Street a practical fit for photographers who want measurable outcomes: print credit, a free copy for their archive, an online portfolio reference, and promotional exposure. The single-theme brief and two-stage judging process—first considering photographs individually and then as a unified group—also make the competition particularly relevant to photographers developing cohesive street projects rather than isolated images. It can be planned alongside popular photography challenges online. For practitioners working close to people and public space, it sits alongside people photography contests and more editorial-leaning calls, while remaining focused on street.

We reviewed the official rules of the AAP Magazine Street to summarize the key participation requirements, copyright terms and image usage conditions. Before entering, we recommend checking the complete rules published by the organizer.

Rules

Open to individuals aged 18 and over. Up to 40 images may be submitted per entrant. Files must be JPG/JPEG at 72 dpi, RGB or grayscale, flattened, without watermarks, up to 2 MB, with the longest side up to 1,200 px and a minimum size of 200 px. Images previously published in AAP Magazine cannot be resubmitted. Entries are judged individually in a first round and then as a cohesive group for publication consideration. After payment is processed, entries cannot be modified or expanded.

Photographers retain full ownership of the copyright in each entry. Images are used in connection with the competition and for promotion of All About Photo, the contest and its winners. They will not be resold or used by another third party. If a third party requests use of an image, All About Photo states that the request will be forwarded to the photographer by email.
