The Streets by Praxis Gallery looks at public life through the unpredictable encounters, gestures and structures that give street photography its energy. The international juried call is open to photographers aged 18 and over, with submissions closing September 13, 2026. Up to 74 photographs will be selected for a physical exhibition at Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis from October 17 to November 14, with the selected work also presented in the gallery’s online exhibition archive.
The brief takes a broad view of street photography. Candid encounters are part of the picture, but Praxis also welcomes photographs shaped by public spaces, urban structures, architecture and everyday observation, in black and white or color and through traditional or experimental approaches. Entry costs $35 for up to five images, with additional photographs priced at $5 each up to ten total. Financial-hardship submissions are available on request. The combination of a juried gallery exhibition and permanent online presentation gives the call a clear place among Deartline’s online photo competition listings without reducing it to a digital-only format.

Categories or Themes
There are no separate categories. “The Streets” serves as the central theme, covering people, public spaces, urban structures and everyday situations encountered in shared environments.
Praxis accepts both black-and-white and color work and leaves room for conventional street practice as well as more experimental interpretations. That breadth makes the call especially relevant to a street photography competition where the idea of the street can include architecture, observation, human interaction and public space.

About the Jury
The Streets by Praxis Gallery 2026 juror is Jonathan Pavlica.
Why Enter The Streets by Praxis Gallery?
The clearest strength of The Streets by Praxis Gallery is that selection leads to an actual gallery exhibition rather than stopping at an online announcement. Praxis is a community-based photography center in Minneapolis with exhibition programming alongside darkroom access, education and support for traditional, experimental and alternative photographic practices. The selected photographs will also remain permanently accessible through its online exhibition archive.
The theme itself is intentionally broad. A photographer can approach the street through people, architecture, fleeting encounters, humor, tension or more formally constructed observations of public space. For photographers monitoring current photo contests, this combination of a focused subject, a named juror and up to 74 physical exhibition places makes the opportunity particularly relevant to photographers with strong individual street images rather than a required portfolio or series.
Rules and Copyright
We reviewed the official rules of The Streets by Praxis Gallery to summarize the key participation requirements, copyright terms and image usage conditions. Before entering, we recommend checking the complete rules published by the organizer.
Rules
Entrants must be at least 18 years old. Photographs previously exhibited at Praxis Gallery within the past year are not eligible. Up to ten images may be submitted under a single entry structure.
Selected photographers can either provide their own original unframed print or pay Praxis to produce the exhibition print. Praxis uses standard 22 × 22-inch black exhibition frames and pre-cut mats, with several maximum image dimensions specified in the call. Praxis states that digital files are not cropped, although portions of oversized prints may be concealed by the mat opening.
Artists may offer exhibition prints for sale. Praxis Gallery retains a 50% commission on any sales made through the exhibition.
Copyright and Image Usage
Photographers retain full copyright to their images. By submitting, artists grant Praxis Gallery a non-exclusive right to use accepted photographs for exhibition display, promotion of the artist and related programs, social media, website features and inclusion in the online exhibition archive.
Selected work is permanently archived through the Praxis Gallery & Photographic Art Center online exhibition gallery. The photographer’s name is displayed with the work wherever Praxis presents it under these uses.
