Contest Type

Nude Geographies by Praxis Gallery approaches the human figure not as a fixed subject, but as a space shaped by identity, environment, vulnerability, politics, and form. Organized as an international juried photography exhibition, the call will select up to 38 photographs for display at Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis from September 19 to October 10, 2026. Entries close on August 23.

The curatorial focus extends from traditional figure studies to environmental and implied nudes, as well as images that examine representation, sensuality, emotional depth, or the relationship between the body and its surroundings. Aesthetic, conceptual, emotional, and experimental approaches are all included within the scope. For photographers comparing current opportunities through Deartline’s photo contest list, this Nude Geographies by Praxis Gallery is distinguished by its physical gallery exhibition, online presentation, and permanent digital archive.

Submission costs begin at $35 for up to five images, with additional photographs priced at $5 each and a limit of ten entries. Selected artists may send an original unframed print or use the gallery’s $37 printing, matting, framing, and installation service. The Directors’ Choice recipient receives free entry to two future Praxis juried calls, while five Honorable Mentions receive exhibition, catalog, and online-gallery recognition.

Prizes

The central opportunity is inclusion in a physical and online photography exhibition opportunity. Up to 38 photographs will be chosen for the Minneapolis show, with accepted works also appearing on the Praxis Gallery online exhibition page.

  • Directors’ Choice: The selected photographer receives free entry into two future Praxis Gallery juried calls of their choice.
  • Five Honorable Mentions: Each recognized photograph will be included in the exhibition, featured in the printed exhibition catalog, and presented in the online exhibition gallery.
  • Selected photographers: All accepted works will be displayed at Praxis Gallery from September 19 to October 10, 2026. The work will also become part of the permanent Praxis Gallery & Photographic Art Center online exhibition archive.
  • Sales opportunity: Artists may offer their exhibition prints for sale. Praxis Gallery retains a 50% commission on completed sales.

Categories or Themes

There are no separate award categories in this Nude Geographies by Praxis Gallery. Instead, the exhibition is built around a broad exploration of the nude figure and its visual, cultural, and psychological contexts.

Relevant approaches include figure studies, environmental nudes, implied nudity, identity, representation, the body as form, and the interaction between the figure and its surroundings. Images may be intimate or confrontational, formal or raw, poetic or political. The call also accommodates aesthetic, conceptual, emotional, and experimental interpretations, placing it within the wider field of nude photography contests.

Dates and Entry Fees

The submission period leads into a relatively short selection and exhibition schedule. Entrants should also account for printing or shipping arrangements if their work is accepted.

Why Enter Nude Geographies by Praxis Gallery?

The Nude Geographies by Praxis Gallery combines a defined curatorial theme with a physical exhibition in a dedicated photography gallery. Up to 38 selected images will be professionally presented in Minneapolis, while the online exhibition provides access beyond the gallery’s local audience. Accepted work remains available in the institution’s permanent digital archive.

The printing arrangements also give selected photographers two practical options. They may ship an original unframed print and have Praxis handle the matting and framing, or submit a high-resolution file for gallery production. This can make participation more manageable for artists entering from outside Minnesota or from abroad.

For photographers reviewing the best photo contests to enter, the distinguishing facts here are the gallery presentation, printed catalog recognition for award recipients, online archiving, and the possibility of future-entry awards. Its international scope also places the call among current international photography contests.

Entrants must be at least 18 years old. Submitted images must not have been exhibited at Praxis Gallery during the previous year.

Rules

  • All initial submissions must be digital JPEG files.
  • Each entrant may submit up to ten images.
  • Accepted artists may send an original unframed print or use the Praxis printing service.
  • Original prints must be shipped in reusable packaging with prepaid return postage.
  • Praxis supplies the matting and framing for accepted original prints.
  • Exhibition images must fit one of the gallery’s available mat openings: 11 × 11 inches, 10 × 15 inches, 11.8 × 15 inches, or 8 × 15 inches.
  • Images larger than the available opening may be partially covered by the mat.
  • Praxis does not crop digital files. High-resolution images are scaled to fit the exhibition format.

The artist’s name will accompany the work wherever it is displayed. This permission does not transfer ownership of the image copyright to the gallery.
