The NLPA is unique in its focus on realism. Unlike other competitions that allow complete freedom in digital manipulation, the Natural Landscape Photography Awards caters to photographers who choose to operate within the more traditional confines of the medium. This competition addresses the notion that the unique quality photography possesses over other artistic mediums is its grounding in reality.

The Natural Landscape Photography Awards prizes
The NLPA offers a range of categories to suit the huge variety of modern approaches to landscape photography, from grand scenics to intimate abstracts. There is a top prize of US $5000 and many other prizes for category winners and runners-up. In total, the competition offers $14,500 in cash, $2,185 in tripods, and $735 in NPN subscriptions. Every winning photographer (15 in total) and over 100 stand-out photographers will also receive a free copy of the annual fine art book, totaling $8,000 in value.
Natural Landscape Photographer of the Year
The photographer with the best collection of 6 images will be awarded. The first place winner will receive a cash prize of US $5,000 and the first choice from the FLM tripod pool. The runner-up will receive a cash prize of US $1,000.
Natural Landscape Photograph of the Year
This is awarded to the single best image entered into the competition, in any category. The first place winner will receive a cash prize of US $1,000, and the third choice from the FLM tripod pool.
Project of the Year
This is a collection of 6-10 images that relate to one another in a way that is entirely up to the photographer. The first place winner will receive a cash prize of US $2,000, and the second choice from the FLM tripod pool. The runner-up will receive a cash prize of US $1,000.
Grand Scenic Award:
Cash Prize of US $1,000.
Intimate Landscapes Award:
Cash Prize of US $1,000.
Abstracts or Details Award:
Cash Prize of US $1,000.
Special Awards
Created to ensure that the competition recognizes a wide variety of subgenres of landscape photography and awarded $500 each.
