How to Enter:
Submit a single entry comprising a series of 5–10 JPEG images via the Picter platform. Complete the application with personal and contact details, a biography, a project presentation and a specific caption for each photograph. The author’s name must not appear in the project text, captions, image files or photographs, as the jury assesses entries anonymously. Files must have a minimum of 3,000 px on the longest side, retain complete EXIF metadata and not exceed 3 MB each.
About the Jury
An international jury composed of professionals from the fields of photography and humanitarian work, together with representatives of Médicos del Mundo, will select the four winning series. The jury will consider photographic quality, the relevance of the story, the ethical approach and the entry’s ability to raise awareness. The special €1,500 award will be decided by the Luis Valtueña Prize jury together with representatives of the Donostia Film and Human Rights Festival.

Rules
Professional and non-professional photographers of any nationality may enter, provided they are of legal age. Collectives comprising two or more members are also eligible. Employees of Médicos del Mundo Spain, their first-degree relatives, jury members and anyone directly involved in organising the competition may not participate. Each photographer or collective may submit only one original series of 5–10 single-frame photographs through Picter. At least 50% of the series must have been produced between 2025 and 2026 and must not have been submitted to previous editions of the Luis Valtueña Prize.
Entries must be JPEG files with a minimum resolution of 3,000 px on the longest side and a maximum file size of 3 MB. The recommended profiles are sRGB for colour images and Gamma 2.2 for grayscale photographs, and complete EXIF metadata must be retained. Basic technical adjustments to exposure, contrast, colour balance, black and white conversion, noise reduction and cropping are permitted, provided they do not alter the documentary content. Adding, removing, replacing or changing elements in the scene is prohibited. Images generated wholly or partly through generative artificial intelligence, or containing AI-created elements that were not present when the photograph was taken, are not accepted. The organisers may request RAW files, negatives or other technical documentation where the authenticity or processing of an image is in doubt.
If an entry contains correctable errors, Médicos del Mundo will notify the entrant, who will have two working days to make the required corrections. Winning and finalist photographers must be able to supply high-resolution, 300 dpi files for exhibition printing and media use.
Copyright and Image Usage
Participants retain the intellectual property rights to their works. The creators of the selected series grant Médicos del Mundo, the Médicos del Mundo International Network and the Donostia Film and Human Rights Festival a non-exclusive licence to use the photographs for communication, dissemination, exhibition, publication and activities connected with the award. The photographer must be credited in every use.
Entrants must hold all necessary rights to the submitted images and obtain the relevant permissions when identifiable people appear in them. They are also responsible for complying with applicable intellectual property, personal data protection and image-rights legislation.
