The Categories of the Discerning Eye 2026
The Discerning Eye does not segment entries into rigid categories, it celebrates small-scale art in all media, from drawing and painting to photography and sculpture, united by the size restriction that gives the exhibition its distinctive focus. All works must measure no more than 50 cm in any dimension, including the frame or stand.

Artists who initially pay to enter fewer than six works may add further entries later through the My Entries page, provided they do so before the deadline.
How to Enter:
Register and submit your work online via the Discerning Eye 2026 Open Call page. Upload a clear digital image of each work and provide its title, dimensions, medium, year and sale price. Select the number of works you wish to enter, pay the corresponding fee and complete each entry before the deadline. You’ll receive a confirmation email upon successful submission.

This year’s exhibition is curated by six independent selectors, each responsible for choosing artworks for their own mini-exhibition:

Rules
The competition is open to artists based in the UK working in any visual art medium. Artists may submit a maximum of six works, and each entry costs £15. All submitted works must be original creations by the entering artist and must not exceed 50 cm in any dimension, including the frame, stand or other method of presentation. Prints are eligible, provided they comply with the competition’s originality requirements. All works must be available for sale, and the sale price supplied with the entry must include the frame where applicable. A commission of 40% plus VAT is charged by The Discerning Eye on the price paid for works sold or commissioned through the exhibition. Each of the six selectors chooses independently, and their decisions are final. Results will be sent by email by 5 October 2026, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding selection decisions. Selected works must correspond to the images and information submitted online, be suitably prepared for display and remain available for the exhibition at the Mall Galleries and online. Artists are responsible for following the organisers’ instructions concerning delivery, collection, framing and presentation. Works that do not comply with the rules, exceed the permitted dimensions or are considered unsuitable for display may be rejected.
Copyright and Image Usage
Copyright in all submitted works remains the property of the artist, and enquiries concerning copyright will be referred to the artist. By entering, artists permit The Discerning Eye and its project managers to reproduce submitted images and information for purposes connected with the selection process, exhibition, online gallery, catalogue, press coverage, publicity and promotion. Selected works and the exhibition may also be photographed or filmed for documentation and promotional use. Artists are responsible for ensuring that they own the rights required to submit and reproduce the images provided and that their entries do not infringe third-party copyright or other rights. By registering, selected artists may be added to the mailing lists of The Discerning Eye and Parker Harris, from which they may unsubscribe.
