The Arbella International Photography Contest 2026 arrives at a significant moment for the medium. Its 16th edition coincides with the 200th anniversary of the invention of photography, connecting two centuries of visual memory with images being created today. Entries remain open until September 6, 2026, and photographers worldwide can compete for a total cash fund of $10,500 without paying an entry fee.
Organized by Arbella Pasta, the contest is built around two distinct routes. “Beauty of Imperfection” focuses on the expressive qualities of ageing, cracks, irregularity, vulnerability, coincidence and transformation. The second is an unrestricted open theme photography contest category covering any subject or photographic approach. This is also a free photography competition, with no charge for registration, image submission or judging.
Individual photographers aged 18 or older may enter from any country. Entrants between 18 and 24 are automatically considered for the Future Viewfinder Award within whichever main category they select. Alongside the category prizes and Grand Prize, the organizers may select up to 26 photographs for exhibition. Beauty of Imperfection
This category looks beyond conventional ideas of flawlessness. Photographs may explore traces of time, breakage, irregular forms, vulnerability, change, chance encounters or unexpected details. The emphasis is on how these qualities can communicate authenticity, individuality and character rather than simply documenting physical damage.
The theme can accommodate varied visual languages, including linked approaches associated with conceptual, fine art photography and experimental image-making, provided the submitted work responds clearly to the idea of imperfection.
Open
The Open category has no subject restriction. Images may address people, landscapes, cities, everyday observations or personal visual narratives. Approaches such as street, portrait, documentary, architecture and personal visual experimentation are all permitted.

Entry fee: Free

How to Enter
Entries must be submitted individually through the contest website. A photographer first selects either Beauty of Imperfection or Open and then completes the online registration and photograph-upload process. Team and group applications are not accepted. Entrants aged 18 to 24 do not need to file a separate Future Viewfinder application because consideration is automatic after entering one of the two main categories.
About the Jury
The Arbella International Photography Contest 2026 selection panel consists of Barbara Di Maio, Coşkun Aral, Ercan Arslan, İlkay Öztürk and Sumru Gözaydın. The panel is responsible for evaluating the submitted photographs and determining the recipients of the overall, category and special recognitions.
