Contemporary Horizons by TCG Gallery is an international open-theme photography call looking for distinctive ways of seeing across documentary, portraiture, landscape, still life, abstraction, staged photography and experimental practice. The competition is open until November 20, 2026, with selected work presented in a curated online exhibition from December 1 to 31.

The idea of a “horizon” can refer to a place, a limit, a possibility or simply a way of thinking about what comes next. A literal horizon is not required, leaving photographers free to submit intimate observations, constructed scenes, formal studies, visual narratives or familiar subjects approached from an individual perspective. For photographers browsing Deartline’s online photography competitions, Contemporary Horizons by TCG Gallery offers a wide-ranging brief without requiring work to fit a particular photographic genre.

The entry fee is $15 for up to three images, and full or partial fee waivers are available to artists who apply at least 48 hours before the deadline. Selected photographs remain in TCG Gallery’s permanent exhibition archive and may be promoted through the gallery’s website, email list and social channels.

Categories or Themes

There are no separate categories. Contemporary Horizons by TCG Gallery is an open-theme photography call, allowing entrants to submit work that best represents their current photographic practice.

Possible approaches include people and identity, community and everyday life, places in transition, built environments, nature, still life, abstraction, color, light, conceptual work, staged photography and visual narratives. Film, alternative processes and experimental photographic methods are also welcome.

That breadth makes the call particularly relevant to photographers exploring open theme photography contests, while still placing emphasis on a clear point of view and considered photographic execution.

About the Jury

Selections are made through the gallery’s curatorial review process, and its exhibitions are reviewed without artist names whenever possible.

Submitted work is considered for visual strength, originality, photographic execution and how well each image contributes to a coherent exhibition. The gallery’s broader selection guidelines also consider visual impact and the overall rhythm and curatorial direction of the final show.

Why Enter Contemporary Horizons by TCG Gallery?

The open-theme format gives photographers considerable freedom to submit work that already represents their practice rather than adapting a project to a narrow subject. Documentary images, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, conceptual work and experimental processes can all be considered within the same curatorial framework.

Selected photographs also remain in TCG Gallery’s long-term public archive after the December exhibition ends, extending their visibility beyond the exhibition dates. For photographers comparing the best photography contests for their own work, Contemporary Horizons by TCG Gallery offers a broad entry point centered on individual photographic perspective, curated presentation and permanent archive placement.

We reviewed the official rules of Contemporary Horizons by TCG Gallery 2026 to summarize the key participation requirements, copyright terms and image usage conditions. Before entering, we recommend checking the complete rules published by the organizer.

Rules

The call is open internationally to photographers and lens-based artists aged 18 or older at any stage of their practice. Digital, film, alternative-process and mixed-media photographic work is accepted. Previously exhibited work is also eligible when the artist continues to hold the necessary rights.

All submitted work must have been created by the entrant. Images generated by, or substantially altered with, generative artificial intelligence are not eligible.

Submission does not guarantee selection. TCG Gallery evaluates work according to visual strength, originality, photographic execution and its contribution to the final exhibition.

Artists retain copyright to their work. Submission permits TCG Gallery to review the photographs, while artists whose work is selected grant the gallery non-exclusive permission for credited exhibition, archiving and related promotion.

Promotional use may include the TCG Gallery website, social media, email announcements, exhibition graphics, press materials and digital archive pages. Artists remain responsible for obtaining any permissions necessary to submit and display their work.

Selected work may also be listed for sale if the photographer chooses. TCG Gallery retains a 30% commission on work sold through the gallery.—
